Kibera Pride Initiative is a non-profit, registered NGO, located in the Kibera SLUM in Nairobi, Kenya
Their mission
Their mission is to help break the cycle of poverty in Kibera slum
They believe and have proved time and time again that the best way to break the cycle of poverty in the Kibera slum, is by investing in its children. Children who receive a good education and good care, fulfill their potential, and are empowered to give back to their communities.
Their work
Providing foster care and protection to the most vulnerable children in the slum who are orphaned, at high risk or abused.
Providing children with shelter, covering their basic needs like food and clothing and providing them with love and a sense of family.
Providing education: through bursaries, financing school fees, as well as other costs related to their schooling.
Nurturing the children’s creative talents, encouraging them to express their emotions and stay motivated, especially children who are not able to go to school.
Providing much needed guidance and counseling to children who are orphaned, victims of physical and sexual abuse, lost or whose families cannot afford to keep them.

Irene, a lifelong resident of Kibera, holds a degree in Social Work from the Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development. Despite growing up in challenging conditions in one of the world’s largest slums, she was inspired to make a difference. Her passion led her to establish the Kibera Pride Initiative, aiming to empower the community through education and opportunities.
Irene’s firsthand experience of the transformative impact of education motivated her to ensure that children in Kibera have access to similar opportunities.
Through her organization, she focuses on providing quality education, improving healthcare, enhancing living conditions, and creating sustainable income-generation opportunities.
The Kibera Pride Initiative’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty and empower individuals to create brighter futures for themselves and their families in Kibera.
